Clisson, a town close to the Western city of Nantes, is a city of mad contrast. The former medieval fortresswas the last ressidence of the Duke of Brittany Francois II, before his daughter Anne married the King of France. After a violent Revolutionnary period, the town was redesigned by Napoleon's sculptor, Lemot, and turned into an Italian inspired, Neoclassic destination.
Clisson is also at the center of the Nantes vineyards, famous for Muscadets but also going through quite a revolution. The new generation has been pushing for more terroir focused farming and winemaking, a push for indegenous varietals, and a move away from chemicals and . Like many other Northern regions, the recent years have also been much warmer, which helped concentrate fruit and lower inputs in the vineyard. All in all, quality of the wines in the region is now very high.
Domaine de L'Epinay is one of these modern producers who took over from previous generation, and turned to organic farming and low intervention winemaking. Pegase are easy drinking wines and good introductions to their range.
