In Penedes,  Xarel-lo is the principal varietal and Ferran Lacruz Boschhas dedicated himself to harnessing its potential and allowing it to express itself fully. Ferran makes exclusively single plot wines that express the individual micro-climates and unique soil structures of each parcel. He goes so far as to even harvest different parts of a single plot on separate days, based on the maturation of the fruit, then vinifying each part individually, making wines that are ultimately balanced and exceptionally precise. Ferran utilises biodynamic preparations such as herbal preparations in place of pesticides and fertilisers. In cellar his wines are unfined, unfiltered and completely free of oenological additives, including sulphur. Ferran believes strongly that in order for his wines to truly express their region they need to be produced without any chemical additions, either in vineyard or cellar.

Xarel-lo 'Sans Papers' 2019

  • From a single steep plot of 54 year old bush vines on clay rich soil, 270-300m above sea level. With a waterway and forest at the bottom of the plot, and because of its inclination, this plot is harvested in three different stages over three weeks as the fruit matures. Ferran then vinifies each harvest separately. Partially pressed directly and partially between 1 and 7 days maceration. Aged in both glass demijohn and 400L old oak barrel. Each wine is then blended together before being bottled. No added sulphur
